Birthday Bonanza

We celebrated two birthdays this month!  Megan and Jacob are  born two days (and 7 years) apart. Thank goodness they each have their own day to celebrate - I think at least one of them prefers it that way!

Poor Megan was stuck with a sick mom on her birthday, but thankfully several friends stepped up and helped her celebrate with cupcakes, Mario Kart, and another cake.  We also had a little candle blowing out ceremony for her on Jake's birthday once I was feeling better.  The following week Megan and I went out for a special date to a paint your own pottery place.  We had a fun afternoon painting and talking and laughing.  Now we just need to pick up our fired pottery and show it off.  I loved spending the afternoon with her.

Jacob loved singing "Happy Birthday" to himself with us throughout the day.  He doesn't have much patience for opening gifts, so we just draped some wrapping paper over his gifts - one big rip accomplished the job of unwrapping.  He was a lot of fun to blow out candles with.  With his  speech delay, he doesn't say "f", but when blowing out candles, he says "f" instead of actually blowing.  Try blowing out candles by saying the sound for "f" - it takes a while.  It was pretty funny.

I love both Megan and Jacob so much.  They bring me much joy and laughter. Here's to many more birthdays for both of them!

Tag, I'm It - Book Meme

My sister, Kristi, tagged me with this book meme.

The rules:

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open to page 56.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 2 to 5 sentences, along with these rules.
5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual book. Pick the CLOSEST!
6. Tag five (or more) other people to do the same!

So, the nearest book (and one that I am currently reading) is "Intuitive Eating" by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch.  I am participating (although rather silently given my lack of comments) in an online book group that my sister-in-law, Jill organized.  We are reading this book as well as another titled "Rethinking Thin" - both good books that are helping me think more about the way I eat and the way I view my body.

"But just like the desperate gambler waiting fo rhis lucky number to come in, so is it futile for the dieter to pay homage to the "scale god."  In one sweep of the scale roulette, hopes and desperation create a daily drama that will ultimately shape what mood you'll be in for the day.  ironically, "good" and "bad" scale numbers can both trigger overeating - whether it's a congratulatory eating celebration or a consolation party."

So what are you reading? (Outside of the above book for those of you who are also reading it.)  I tag:  Sarah Phillips, Laura Dryden, Heather Howell, Jill Dickey, Lynette Dickey, Laura Dickey, Mark Chandler,  Michael Chandler, and Dad Chandler .

Scripture Power

Matthew, Jacob, and I stayed home from church Sunday. I was very sick, and by the time church would have been over, so was Matthew. Jake just needed his nap at normal time. Anyway, Matthew and I were watching a video about Nephi and the brass plates. We were at the part where Laman and Lemuel were beating Nephi and Sam with a stick and an angel appeared to them. The narrator on the video said, "The angel chastened Laman and Lemuel. . .(something, something, something)." Matthew quickly piped up, "See, mom! It was Jason, Laman, and Lemuel. Nephi wasn't there when the angel came." Oh, he is so cute. Even though my stomach was so sick, I couldn't help but laugh and laugh as I explained to him what had really been said. He reluctantly said he understood, but I think in his heart he still believes Jason was there, too. Matthew is such a bright spot in my life!
